On Wednesday, it was reported that Alabama cornerback Tony Brown was sent home by the school. Today, we have a clue as to why.

According to sources, the Crimson Tide sent the backup CB and key special teams player home from the Cotton Bowl because Brown was the instigator in a fight with one of the Alabama’s defensive linemen during one of the team’s practices for the game.

Sources also said the decision was finalized by Alabama’s player leadership council. There is no indication as to who the defensive lineman was or the severity of Brown’s punishment.

On Wednesday, the school released a very brief statement on Brown’s dismissal, only saying, “We have made an internal decision to send Tony Brown home due to a violation of team rules.”

Alabama plays Michigan State in the College Football Playoff semifinal on Thursday night in Dallas. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
