The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs travel to Auburn for Homecoming at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Here are five Louisiana Tech players Auburn fans need to know:
1. Cody Sokol, QB: Sokol has been good for Skip Holtz’s team this season. He’s completed close to 63 percent of his passes and is averaging 252.2 yards per game. Sokol completed 22-of-36 passes for 191 yards in the Bulldogs’ season-opening loss at Oklahoma on Aug. 30. He faces a secondary that has been shored up by the play of cornerback-turned-safety Josh Holsey.
2. Kenneth Dixon, RB: Dixon is LA Tech’s leading rusher having amassed 428 yards and five scores on the ground. He’s averaging a serviceable 101 yards per game, but now faces a Tiger defense that has been very good against the run this season, allowing just 86 yards per game.
3. Sterling Griffin, WR: Griffin is Sokol’s No. 1 target. He’s caught 19 passes for 280 yards and a touchdown. The speedster is a big-play threat on the outside for the Bulldogs that could cause some headaches in single coverage for the Tigers.
4. Trent Taylor, WR: Taylor, opposite Griffin, is an athletic wideout that Sokol likes to target. He has 14 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Both Taylor and Griffin catch balls at or past the first down marker, a factor that could prove troublesome for Auburn.
5. Kentrell Brice, DB: Brice leads LA Tech in tackles with 26. He’s recorded an interception and forced fumble. Brice is an athletic defensive back – he chose the Bulldogs over the likes of Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Missouri, Oregon State, Nebraska and Kansas State – that can lay the wood flying around the defensive backfield.
