Following a successful stint as North Carolina’s defensive coordinator over the last two seasons, Gene Chizik is reportedly considering stepping away from coaching. Most known for his four-year run as Auburn’s national championship-winning head coach in 2010, Chizik worked for the SEC Network between his time on the Plains and in Chapel Hill.

According to Football Scoop, North Texas defensive coordinator Mike Ekeler is expected to join North Carolina in a co-defensive coordinator role. The move leaves some doubt on Chizik’s future in Chapel Hill, and according to Football Scoop, Chizik may be moving back into the television realm.

Chizik was hired as one of the first in-studio analyst for the SEC Network back in 2014. The former Auburn head coach also has experience on the radio working for Sirius/XM. Chizik left the media world to return to coaching at North Carolina.
