The University of Georgia announced that defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor has been dismissed from the team.
The announcement comes after Taylor was arrested for felony aggravated assault/family violence for allegedly choking and striking his girlfriend with a closed fist following an argument. He was released on a $5,000 bond at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Taylor was one of four Georgia players arrested in March on theft by deception charges after trying to double-dip scholarship checks.
Taylor, a third-year sophomore, appeared in 10 games last season, making nine tackles and a sack. The former four-star recruit was expected to be in the rotation up front this fall for the Bulldogs.
He becomes the Bulldogs’ third defensive player to be dismissed this off-season; the other two being Josh Harvey-Clemons and Tray Matthews. JHC transferred to Louisville, while Tray Matthews transferred to Auburn.
