If Georgia can defend its national title this season, Takeo Spikes believes Kirby Smart is on a trajectory only accomplished by the man he previously worked under.

The SEC Network analyst compared Georgia’s coach to Alabama’s Nick Saban, regarded by many as the greatest of all-time in the sport.

Spikes thinks a dynasty could be on the way in Athens if Georgia can grab 3 more wins to cap off this season.

“Looking at it, we might be seeing the next coming of Nick Saban from a legacy standpoint if he continues this trend,” Spikes said.

The 71-year-old Saban has captured 7 national titles and 10 SEC championships. Meanwhile, the 46-year-old Smart is a 2-time SEC Coach of the Year since taking over Georgia in 2016 and led the Bulldogs to the 2021 national title. Smart was Saban’s defensive coordinator at Alabama from 2008-15.

Undefeated No. 1 Georgia will take on No. 14 LSU on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game. Kickoff from Atlanta is set for 4 p.m. ET, with coverage on CBS.

LSU holds an 18-13-1 edge vs. Georgia in the all-time series, with victories in the last 2 contests. In the last meeting, LSU knocked off Georgia 37-10 in the 2019 SEC Championship Game.
