ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Coveted five-star wideout Tyrone Johnson announced his commitment to LSU on Friday at the Under Armour All-America Game.
Johnson, a native of New Orleans, La., chose the Bayou Bengals over Auburn and Georgia. Johnson is the top player in the state of Louisiana, amassing more than 4,000 receiving yards in his four-year prep career. His Warren Easton club was eliminated in the Louisiana state playoffs in a state championship game loss.
Johnson’s top five consisted of LSU, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Auburn and Georgia. He said last month his top five was in no particular order. Johnson has taken an official visit to Auburn and still has a visit to LSU on the books.
At 6-foot-1, 191-pounds, Johnson is a bit undersized out wide, but has game-changing speed and the ability to get chunk yards after the catch.
His pickup is huge for the Tigers, who return star wideouts Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre. The skill positions won’t be a concern for LSU in 2015.
Johnson weighed offers from Mississippi State, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU and Texas A&M.
