Ed Orgeron is far removed from his 10-25 record as head coach of Ole Miss during the 2005-2007 seasons. Since that time, Coach O is 8-2 as an interim head coach at both USC and LSU. Next weekend, Orgeron will get his first opportunity as a head coach to face Ole Miss, as the Rebels travel to Death Valley Saturday night.
During the postgame of LSU’s Saturday night 45-10 win over Southern Miss, Orgeron’s second game as the Tigers’ interim head man, the coach was asked about facing his former club.
Here’s what Coach O had to say:

While Orgeron was very successful in bringing in talent to Oxford, his win-loss record left much to be desired from Rebel Nation. Coach O’s final season ultimately did him in, as the Rebels finished with a 3-9 record. Despite his failures to win on the field, Orgeron’s successor Houston Nutt reaped the benefits of Orgeron’s work and managed to take Ole Miss to a 9-4 record his first season in Oxford.
Since taking over the job from Les Miles, the LSU players have clearly played with a new sense of urgency and give much of the credit for the new direction of the season to their interim coach. It will be interesting to see how the team approaches and ultimately executes next weekend against the school Coach O shares so much history.
With Ole Miss having its back against the wall and LSU fighting for its life in the SEC West, next weekend’s Death Valley showdown is already shaping up to be a classic.
