Details emerge of how LSU’s hiring of Ed Orgeron went down

On Saturday morning, it was reported that interim coach Ed Orgeron landed the full-time job at LSU.
Coach O beat out Houston’s Tom Herman, who will likely land the job at Texas if and when Charlie Strong is fired.
The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger said LSU officials received an early-morning call from Herman that led them to hire Coach O:
#LSU leaders worked thru the night.
Tom Herman called at 5 a.m. leaning #Texas. Tigers made their decision: O.

Even with Herman’s indecisiveness, Coach O apparently had the support of LSU administrators after a Friday meeting:
Ed Orgeron "blew away" #LSU decision-makers in a meeting Friday.
He brought with him a massive binder detailing long-term plans.

After reportedly offering Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher $6.8 million per year to come to Baton Rouge, Orgeron will be a bargain.
With a salary around $3 million, the Tigers will have money to spend on top assistants:
#LSU will nail down and finalize Orgeron's contract this AM (expected around $3M/year)
He will go after Lane Kiffin for his OC position.

If the Tigers want to lure Lane Kiffin away from Alabama, they’ll likely have to wait. The Crimson Tide have as many as four games remaining on their 2016 schedule.
