LSU has a high-profile defensive coordinator opening, and there will be plenty of big-name candidates mentioned for the job. Former Ole Miss and Southern California head coach Ed Orgeron is the first to express public interest in joining Les Miles’ staff.
On Friday morning, Orgeron joined Derek Ponamsky on 104.5 ESPN Radio in Baton Rouge, La., where he didn’t dance around his interest in the position.

Oregeron has spoken publicly about wanting to get back into coaching throughout the season. After serving as Southern Cal’s interim head coach last year when Lane Kiffin was fired, Orgeron was passed over for the full-time position. USC coach Steve Sarkisian wanted to keep Orgeron as an assistant, but “Coach O” decided to pursue other opportunities. He ended up not coaching in 2014.
Orgeron has built his reputation as an excellent defensive coach and very good recruiter. He already has the support of at least one current Tiger.
I hope we can get Coach “O” at #LSU that would be HUGE

LSU lost defensive coordinator John Chavis to Texas A&M after its bowl loss to Notre Dame. Neither LSU athletic director Joe Alleva or Miles have given a time frame on when they hope to fill the position.
