Though LSU was reportedly ready to pay Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher nearly $7 million per year to come to Baton Rouge, school officials weren’t willing to open the checkbook quite as much for an unproven coach.
According to reports, Houston coach Tom Herman wanted $6 million to coach the Tigers and LSU officials said no:

When LSU balked at Herman’s request, school administrators quickly hired interim coach Ed Orgeron as the full-time head coach.
Herman is the frontrunner to land the Texas job if and when Charlie Strong is officially fired.
