As LSU’s 2016 recruiting class arrives on campus for the summer semester, one notable signee won’t be joining his classmates.
Four-star DT Edwin Alexander has yet to enroll in classes, according to a report in the New Orleans Advocate:
St. Thomas Aquinas defensive tackle Edwin Alexander is not expected to enroll in summer classes at LSU, multiple sources confirmed to The Advocate. He’ll work this summer to reach qualification benchmarks and could enroll in August.
Les Miles and his coaching staff seem confident Alexander will be with the Tigers this fall, but a JUCO route is mentioned later in the article:
Alexander, rated a four-star prospect, is ranked the eighth-best defensive tackle in the nation in this year’s class, and the 310-pounder is seen as a potential nose tackle in LSU’s new 3-4 scheme. The Tigers expect him to qualify over the summer and be eligible by preseason camp in August. A junior-college route is the fallback plan.
As the Tigers switch to a 3-4 in 2016, having Alexander in the mix would be better for all parties than having the 310-pounder playing at the JUCO level this fall.
