It’s official.
Shortly after learning that QB Tony Romo would miss 6-10 weeks with a broken bone in his back, the Dallas Cowboys named former Mississippi State star Dak Prescott the Week 1 starter:
Dak Prescott will open season as starter. There is no debate there. Jerry and Stephen Jones say they will look for veteran backup.

Prescott has been outstanding so far this preseason, completing 22 of 27 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also scored two touchdowns on the run and has yet to throw an interception.
Obviously, preseason statistics must be taken with a grain of salt, but the Cowboys may have a viable solution at backup quarterback in Prescott that they haven’t had in recent years.
