Did you like Oregon’s matte black with pink accents ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ helmets worn during Thursday’s game against Arizona?
We did too.
SDS uniform experts Ted Hyman and Brad Crawford teamed up to see how SEC helmets would look splashed with pink for a good cause. An updated primary decal does the trick on most helmets, but others have several new graphics — including stripes — for a more complete, color-swapped look.
We’ve also included a quick glimpse at each SEC program’s traditional gameday garb for this season, overall home-away uniform rankings and a few highly-detailed alternate helmet concepts.
‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ 2014 SEC helmet concepts
FLORIDA — Keep the wide orange stripe down the center of the throwback white helmet, but give it pink accents.
GEORGIA — Red and pink clash, but it could work for a single game.
ALABAMA — Invert white shell stickers from crimson to pink.
VANDERBILT — Glossy black with a pink star outline looks natural.
MISSISSIPPI STATE — There’s not much you can do to make pink coincide with maroon, but we tried with a bright logo banner and stripe.
TENNESSEE — Why not make the ‘Power T’ pink? Matte grey with a pink graphic outlined in white would look fantastic.
AUBURN — If you look closely, you’ll notice the subtle pink accents on the Tigers’ traditional gameday helmet. There’s not enough pink for me.
TEXAS A&M — Matte black helmet with a stylized white and pink primary logo, along with a hot pink to dark pink facemask fade. Perfect execution.
LSU — It would only work with white alternate jerseys and pants, but this creation is appealing.
SOUTH CAROLINA — Gamecock fans are starved for an alternate helmet and this one’s of the matte black variety. Primary logo gets a pink touch-up.
ARKANSAS — Simple, yet elegant.
KENTUCKY — Imagine a pink chrome decal contrasting with sparkling blue? Even Oregon would applaud.
MIZZOU — The Tigers’ matte black alternate helmet provides the perfect canvas for an oversized pink decal. The two-toned, gradient facemask is a nice touch.
OLE MISS — The most attractive Breast Cancer Awareness concept of the bunch? The Rebels’ preferred throwback powder blue lid with pink accents. The light colors correspond well together and the grey facemask gives it a sleek look.
We’ve also ranked the hottest looks and ones that didn’t fare so well. Some teams are in desperate need of a style change.
