Who is Tim Tebow’s Freak of the Year?
Derrick Henry.
Alabama’s star running back was the recipient of the Freak of the Year award, given by Tebow on the SEC Network’s pregame show.
The choice makes sense. Henry is a 6-foot-3, 242-pound running back who runs a 4.45-second 40-yard dash. He is built like a linebacker or a fullback, but leads the nation with 1,797 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns. He also has four 200-yard rushing games.
“Derrick Henry is the Freak of the Year,” Tebow said on Saturday’s SEC Network pregame show. “But you ask me why. Because he has 17 straight games with a touchdown. He has 1,797 rushing yards, 22 touchdowns this year. But why could he do it? Because he can squat 550 pounds, and he can bench press 450 pounds. He’s also pretty explosive. His broad jump is a 10-4. That’s like seven (Paul) Finebaums. He also runs a 4.45 40. This dude is unbelievable.
“But also, to be honest, the reason he won Freak of the Year is because last week he had the ability, in a rivalry game, to carry it 46 times. That is ridiculous.”

Every week, Tebow gave out his Freak of the Week award to an SEC player who had turned in a freakish performance.
The 14 Freaks of the Week were the nominees for the Freak of the Year. They were: Henry, Florida defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett, Missouri defensive end Charles Harris, LSU running back Leonard Fournette, Ole Miss defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, Auburn defensive end Carl Lawson, Georgia running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, Kentucky running back Stanley “Boom” Williams, Arkansas offensive tackle Dan Skipper, South Carolina wide receiver Pharoh Cooper, Tennessee cornerback Cameron Sutton and Mississippi State defensive back Brandon Bryant.
Fans were encouraged to vote on Twitter for the player they felt deserved the award, and they also picked Henry. Bullard finished second in the fan voting, followed by Nkemdiche, Skipper and Sutton.
