Clemson’s Venables denies interest in Texas A&M defensive coordinator job
Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, one of the coaches Texas A&M is rumored to be interested in for its open defensive coordinator position, has said he’s not interested in the job.
“I have a great job here. Are you kidding me? No, I love where we’re at, and I’ve only been a couple of places. I am a loyal guy, and if you want to talk about somebody that is the epitome of All In, I have always been that way. I am not wired like that. Wherever that came from, that is news to me,” Venables told TigerNet.com.

Texas A&M is looking for a permanent defensive coordinator after firing Mark Snyder on Friday. The Aggies finished last in the SEC in total defense for the second straight year. The final straw was the Thanksgiving loss to LSU, in which the Tigers ran for 384 yards on the Aggies, the third straight game they allowed more than 300 yards on the ground. Linebackers coach Mark Hagan is serving as interim defensive coordinator.
Venables’ Clemson defense has been one of the best in the nation this year. Clemson was eighth in the country in scoring defense, allowing 17.6 points per game, first in third down conversion rate allowed at a paltry 27 percent and sixth in rushing defenses with 100.8 yards per game. Clemson hammered their rival South Carolina on Saturday, with 13 tackles for loss and 5 sacks in a 35-17 win.
