Alabama defensive back Desmond Ricks has opted for the transfer portal on Saturday after 1 season with the program, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Ricks was a former 5-star recruit out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy. The 247Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 2 corner and No. 6 Florida prospect in the 2023 class. He was originally in the 2024 class before reclassifying to the 2023 class. He had SEC offers from Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and South Carolina.
The Alabama DB was used to provide depth in the secondary and also played a role on special teams. He appeared in the games against Kentucky and Chattanooga earlier this season.
There has been an influx of Alabama player hitting the transfer portal lately with the news of Nick Saban’s retirement coming out on Wednesday. Players like Isaiah Bond, Kendrick Blackshire, and Roydell Williams have all entered the portal this month.
The Crimson Tide have DB reinforcements coming in via the 2024 class. Jaylen Mbakwe is a 5-star signee at corner and Zabien Brown is rated as a 4-star signee. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. is a 3-star signee at corner. At safety there’s 4-star signees Zavier Mincey, Peyton Woodyard, and Rydarrius Morgan. Domani Jackson is coming to Tuscaloosa from USC via the transfer portal.
