Alabama mistakes prove too costly, as fans and media react to late field goal miss

Bryce Young kept Alabama in the game after the Crimson Tide had a slew of mistakes early on, including a fumble and a host of penalties. But it wasn’t enough in the end, as Tennessee prevailed with a last-second field goal to win 52-49.
Ja’Corey Brooks made an 18-yard catch on third down and 10 as Alabama worked its way into field-goal range. But after an 11-play drive, Will Reichard saw his 50-yard field goal attempt sail wide right.
Alabama finished with 17 penalties for 130 yards, with a turnover and the late field goal miss.
It was Tennessee’s first win over Alabama since 2006, and the first win over Nick Saban.
Here’s a sampling of the reaction:
Alabama’s field goal try is NO GOOD. Tennessee takes over, tied 49-49 with the Crimson Tide. There’s 9 seconds left and the #Vols are at midfield. pic.twitter.com/Bf512Uf0r3

Well Alabama just made 17 too many mistakes. ROCKY TOP BABY?

This Alabama team does not deserve Brice Young. Nothing worse than seeing an underdog wining because of the mistakes of the better team. Smh. Tennessee is going crazy! You didn’t win, they lost it. Still you are unbeaten. #AwfulOfficials

Alabama lost because of a dumb mistake on a punt and 16 penalties. But I don’t want to hear it when people say they get all the calls because there we a few questionable that were not called.

Tennessee (offensively) is the real deal. Massive win, and the Vols are about to be a top-five team.
Also: Nick Saban lost that game. Doesn’t happen often. A staggering number of brainless mistakes by Alabama, and that can only be in the coach.

Cannot remember an Alabama team making that many mistakes/penalties in a looong time

Tennessee took the punches and kept moving, complete performance to beat a vulnerable Alabama team that made a lot of mistakes. Hendon Hooker gets the Heisman right now #sec #cfb

It’s only fitting that Alabama is going to lose this game. They deserve to. After all the penalties and mistakes, they mismanaged the final series on offense, didn’t gain a single yard and left the FG kicker on the far hash from 51.

In fact, this game all but assures the @SEC of potentially getting at least 2 teams into the @CFBPlayoff.
Should #Alabama win out and #Georgia beat #Tennessee but lose to the Tide in the SEC title game, an argument could be made for all 3 teams deserving of a Playoff spot. ? https://t.co/RAz9Tq0SYR— Alex Byington (@_AlexByington) October 15, 2022
