Head coach Nick Saban now officially has his new director of football operations on staff as Alabama has named Ellis Ponder to that position Thursday.
An Alabama native, Ponder has spent the last two years serving as an associate director of football operations with the team.
“The University of Alabama has always been very special to me and I am looking forward to my expanded role,” Ponder said via an official school release. “Coach Saban is the best in the nation at running a football program and I truly appreciate the opportunity and his trust in me to serve as the director of football operations.”
Among the duties Ponder will be responsible for in Tuscaloosa include supervising the support employees, maintaining efficient day-to-day operations, and running football clinics. Ponder earned his undergraduate degree in 2010 and his master’s degree in marketing in 2011 – both from Alabama.
