Alabama has suffered several injuries to its linebacking corps this season, forcing new players to step up.

On Saturday against Mercer, freshman Dylan Moses answered the call, recording an impressive 11 tackles and intercepting a pass.

Naturally, that performance drew praise from coach Nick Saban and some of Moses’s older teammates. S Hootie Jones said he’s never seen a freshman play so well defensively (via 247Sports):

“He played phenomenal,” Jones said. “I ain’t seen no freshman since I’ve been here play like he was playing tonight.”

Fellow LB Rashaan Evans, a senior, said he was proud of the way Moses stepped up when his teammates needed him most:

“He looked focused,” Evans said. “He was ready to play and just step up to the plate. And that’s basically what he showed out here on the field. He showed that he can play to the highest level. I’m just proud of him.

“I feel like now he can just build off of that and just play good ball.”

Obviously, Mercer wasn’t the toughest test in the world, but having Moses ready as the Iron Bowl approaches is huge for the Crimson Tide.

If the Tide are going to finish a perfect regular season, Moses is going to have to make some contributions on defense once again.
