Alabama tight end Ty Lockwood, a former 4-star prospect and a top 12 tight end in the 2023 recruiting class, is set to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Lockwood, considered the No. 12 tight end in the country and the No. 4 player in Tennessee on 247Sports’ composite rankings, saw limited action with the Crimson Tide over his 2 years with the program. His only catch came in November against Mercer.
Alabama players had a 5-day window following their bowl game to enter the transfer portal following Tuesday’s 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. That window closes on Sunday.
Several Tide players took the opportunity to do so, including edges Jeremiah Alexander and Jayshawn Ross, safety King Mack, and wide receivers Jaren Hamilton and Amari Jefferson. That’s on top of the players that entered the portal after the regular season ended, including running back Justice Haynes, who ultimately pledged to Michigan, as did defensive lineman Damon Payne.
Alabama finished its first season under Kalen DeBoer with a 9-4 record with losses to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Michigan. Tide fans will hope an up-and-down 2024 will give way to a return to championship standards in 2025.
