Just about any time a wife interjects her opinion about a coaching strategy of her college coach husband, there’s an entertaining exchange. Add in their child and it goes next level.
That happened on Wednesday during the SEC Media Days for men’s basketball when Alabama coach Avery Johnson shared this anecdote about his wife, Cassandra, wanting their son, Avery Johnson, Jr., to get more playing time.
Avery Jr., who transferred from Texas A&M, is a redshirt junior and averaged 4.4 points per game last season. He had a season-high 13 points against Memphis. Though he was one of just two players on the team who played in all 36 games.
Interesting, Avery Jr. has a sister, Christianne, who is majoring in sports management and hopes to go into coaching one day, according to her brother’s bio.
