The Jacksonville Jaguars and new head coach Urban Meyer have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and many analysts think it’s a foregone conclusion that the Jags will take Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence.
But, NFL legend Brett Favre thinks the Jaguars should look elsewhere for their No. 1 overall pick.
Speaking with TMZ Sports, Favre suggested that the Jaguars should take Heisman-winning Alabama WR DeVonta Smith with the first pick:
“I don’t know if Jacksonville, in my opinion, I don’t know if quarterback is their immediate need,” the NFL legend says … “I would take DeVonta Smith.”
Favre says Lawrence will be good, but not that much better than some of the other quarterbacks in the class. Then, he compared Smith to a pair of all-time great receivers:
“I think you go with a guy like that,” Favre says. “Nothing against Trevor Lawrence but I think you can find a free agent guy or a guy in the latter rounds or mid-rounds in the draft. “But, you just don’t find a guy like a — this guy could be a Jerry Rice. He could be different. A Randy Moss. A total game-changer.”
What will the Jaguars do? We’ll find out who they take when the draft begins in April.
