Daron Payne’s work on the field has paid off. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle out of Alabama received a massive new deal from the Washington Commanders Sunday, one worth $90 million across 4 years, with $60 million guaranteed.
Payne is now the highest-paid defensive tackle not named Aaron Donald in NFL history, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Money well spent, Washington
Payne made an immediate impact for Washington out of college, totaling 56 tackles, 3 pass deflections, 5 sacks and a forced fumble his rookie season. The former first round pick only got better as the seasons wore on, and by season 5 he’s totaled 261 tackles, 26 sacks, 14 pass deflections and 4 forced fumbles and fumbles recovered each. We’d say that paints the picture pretty well.
The Commanders recently used the franchise tag on Payne for his play on the field. And for the rest of the defensive tackles across the league negotiating on extensions, their price may have just went up.
