DeVonta Smith only experienced 4 losses in his 4 seasons (2017-20) at Alabama. Like many, he did not expect to see his alma mater fall in Week 10.

The Spun recently caught up with Smith. During the Q&A, Smith was asked if he was surprised to see Alabama lose to LSU.

“I mean, yeah. Alabama is the standard for college football. You know how high the bar is set when you’re there. You need to bring your best effort day in, day out. You can’t just play around there.”

In Smith’s career, Alabama only once lost 2 games in a season (2019). UA dropping a rare second game before the Iron Bowl has some questioning whether the Crimson Tide’s dominant run is coming to an end. Smith shared his thoughts with The Spun:

I mean things happen. We can’t sit here and act like other teams don’t have good athletes and good players. It’s the SEC, anyone can go out there and win any given game.

Smith’s undefeated Philadelphia Eagles are getting set to face the Washington Commanders on Monday. He’s sure to be among those watching the Alabama-Ole Miss game Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS).
