Former Alabama quarterback Dylan Lonergan entered the transfer portal last week and has already found a new home. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the QB has committed to Boston College for the 2025 season.

Lonergan will reunite with Bill O’Brien, who is the head coach at Boston College, but was previously the offensive coordinator at Alabama. O’Brien helped recruit the QB to Tuscaloosa, but Lonergan attempted just 8 passes over 2 seasons. Now, the former top-100 prospect will seek to secure the starting gig with the Eagles.

At Alabama, Lonergan completed 7 of 8 passes for 35 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also rushed 2 times for 21 yards in his Alabama career.

Lonergan seems to have found a nice landing spot for himself. The Eagles saw 2 QBs- Thomas Castellanos and Jack Brandon- enter the portal so far in December. Castellanos started for the Eagles in 2023 and 2024 before being benched in November. Lonergan will likely battle Grayson James, who started the team’s final 3 games in 2024, for the starting job.

In high school, Lonergan was a 4-star recruit. The 247Sports Composite ranking had Lonergan as the No. 13 QB and No. 13 player out of Georgia in the 2023 class. The QB received interest from Georgia Tech, Georgia, South Carolina, and others, before deciding on the Crimson Tide.

Lonergan is 1 of 14 Alabama players who have entered the portal so far. Meanwhile, Lonergan is the 3rd player to commit to the Eagles via the portal joining VJ Wilkins and Zeke Moore.
