Jameson Williams is returning to practice for the Detroit Lions, as the former Alabama wide receiver is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the national championship loss to Georgia.
Williams was taken No. 12 overall in the NFL Draft, after the Lions moved up 20 spots to take him, and has been on the non-football injury list since the summer.
Coach Dan Campbell recently updated reporters on Williams’ timeline to return.
“I would say probably after Thanksgiving sometime … I think that’s tentatively what we’re looking at,” Campbell said, per the team’s web site. “I don’t know if that would be the Jacksonville week or the week after. It could be (Thanksgiving) week, it’s just we’re not doing a ton, but he’s close. We’ll see where it goes. He’s progressing, there’s no setbacks.”
The Lions hope Williams can eventually duplicate the big-play ability he showed at Alabama. Williams set an Alabama single-season record 4 touchdowns of 70-plus yards last year, a number that led all Division 1 receivers. He totaled 11 touchdowns of 30-plus yards or more to also lead the nation.
