John Metchie explains why he thinks DeVonta Smith is the best player in college football

When it comes to Alabama’s Heisman Trophy candidates this season, many analysts discuss QB Mac Jones and RB Najee Harris.
But, WR DeVonta Smith has 12 touchdown catches, tied for the national lead, and 1,074 total receiving yards. He also has a touchdown as a runner.
On Monday, fellow Alabama WR John Metchie said he thinks Smith is the best player in college football (via AL.com):
“Defenses can try to lock in on DeVonta,” Metchie said Monday. “I don’t think… It’s kind of hard to stop somebody like that. Personally I think Smitty is the best player in college football right now.”
Will we see Smith get more Heisman buzz moving forward? We’ll see how he performs against LSU this Saturday.
