Former Alabama golfer Justin Thomas puts together best round in US Open history
It doesn’t have to be football season for the Crimson Tide to dominate.
Former Alabama golfer Justin Thomas put together the lowest-scoring round relative to par in US Open history on Saturday afternoon. By drilling an eagle putt on the par-5 18th hole, Thomas became just the fifth player to finish with a score of 63 at the US Open. His 9-under 63 was one stroke better than Johnny Miller’s round of 63, which was 8-under at Oakmont in 1973.
Thomas’ round consisted of one eagle, nine birdies and two bogeys. There were several incredible moments from Thomas’ record-setting afternoon, a few of which can be seen below.

After sinking his eagle put on the 18th hole, Thomas ended his round with an overall score of 11-under par and in sole possession of the lead among an extremely crowded field. Gaining almost as much attention as his round was Thomas’ pink pants. When his initial outfit lineup was released, Thomas had to make one thing very clear about his Sunday outfit, which he will be wearing as he attempts to win the trophy.

Thomas began his career at Alabama in 2012, the same year he won the Haskins Award as the most outstanding collegiate golfer. He was a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2013 national championship team before turning pro last that year.
