Luke Fickell: Wisconsin received ‘good, old-fashioned ass whooping’ from Alabama

Luke Fickell knew it was bad and so did the entire country.

On FOX’s Big Noon showcase stage, Fickell’s Wisconsin team had no resistance for 4th-ranked Alabama, which steamrolled the Badgers, 42-10, on Saturday afternoon in Madison.

After the carnage was mercifully over, Fickell didn’t hold back in owning his team’s loss, which dropped Wisconsin to 2-1 on the season while the Crimson Tide improved to 3-0.

“It’s a good, old-fashioned ass whooping at home, which hurts,” said Fickell.

Fickell’s defense allowed over 400 total yards to Alabama, and it allowed Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe to go wild with his arm and legs. Milroe had 3 touchdown passes without an interception, and he added 75 yards rushing and 2 more scores on the ground.

“They beat us in all three phases of the game today,” said Fickell. “There’s not a phase where I can say we did a good job.”

Fickell said it’s up to the Badgers to pick up the pieces from the loss and bounce back.

“It’s all about how you handle it and how you respond,” he said.

Wisconsin will have the ultimate challenge in bouncing back though. After a bye week, the Badgers head west to face No. 11 USC on Sept. 28.
