Mac Jones wasn’t considered the top quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft by most analysts, but he had the most successful rookie season of any quarterbacks within that group. He was ranked at No. 85 when the NFL Top 100 Players list was released recently.

Some thought the recognition and placement was appropriate, while others thought he should have been higher or lower. If there’s one thing everyone can agree on, though, it is that Jones has the full backing of his teammates who recently showed their support for him.

“Mac is a field general,” Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon said. “From Day 1, he came in yelling to get in the huddle on his first touchdown. Like, he didn’t even want the ball. He’s not a big me guy, he’s a we guy.”

New England defensive tackle Lawrence Guy echoed that sentiment, praising Jones from an intangibles perspective.

“The best thing about Mac is he came in a leader,” New England defensive tackle Lawrence Guy said. “The offensive line loves him. You can see the respect that they have for him… every game, wins or losses, he got better.”

As a pure pocket passer, Jones landed in the perfect situation with a team that uses that type of quarterback extremely well and has for years. After Jones finished out the 2021 season with a 67.6% completion rate, 3,801 passing yards 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions en route to a postseason run.

He should only be expected to continue to grow and have success after he’s already impressed in just one full NFL season.
