Mike Locksley is not interested in the petty drama that is so common around college football these days.
In a recent interview, Locksley revealed a valuable lesson he learned while “spending time at that rehab program down in Tuscaloosa.” Locksley was a member of Nick Saban’s staff from 2016-2018 before getting the head gig at Maryland.
“External motivation only lasts just long enough to wear off,” declared Locksley. “Whereas internal motivation is the one that usually sustains throughout 4 quarters.”
Ryan Day vs Lou Holtz?
Deion Sanders vs Dan Lanning?@CoachLocks and the #Terps don’t need any of that.

Locksley explained that people keep him informed of the latest news, but he tunes it out. “Last week, I didn’t even realize it was Michigan State’s homecoming until we arrived at the stadium to do the walkthrough.”
Whatever Locksley is doing seems to be working, as the Terrapins are a perfect 4-0 thus far. The next test for the Terrapins will be against the Indiana Hoosiers in Week 5.
Locksley is one in a long list of former Nick Saban assistants who have found success at their own programs.
