Following an outstanding Alabama career, Minkah Fitzpatrick was the No. 11 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, going to the Miami Dolphins.

However, even as he embarks on his NFL career, he’s still racking up the awards back in Alabama, and he earned another one this week.

According to a release from TideSports.com, Fitzpatrick was named Alabama’s Amateur Athlete of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers’ Association:

“It’s an honor,” Fitzpatrick said. “I appreciate the sports writers of Alabama naming me the Amateur Athlete of the Year in Alabama. It’s an honor and a blessing. I always love my family at Alabama and I’m just thankful for the opportunity.”

Nick Saban also released a statement on Fitzpatrick, praising his former star defensive back:

“Minkah did it as well as anybody I’ve ever coached, and we could not be happier for every accolade he has received,” Saban said. “He paid attention to every detail in all aspects of the game. He put in the time in the classroom, weight room, film room, on the practice field and in the community to be the best and it showed in everything he did.”

The Dolphins are counting on Fitzpatrick to continue racking up the awards in the NFL, too, perhaps starting with the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
