Najee Harris had quite an eventful draft night when he officially joined the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he recently recapped it during an appearance on the “All Things Covered” podcast.

“I talked to Snoop Dogg before I talked to the Steelers,” Harris said, and didn’t know why. “He congratulated me before the Steelers.”

The former Alabama star running back recalled that the legendary rapper is a big Steelers fan and they’re pretty cool now. He then talked with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, but couldn’t hear him because Harris’ family was so loud, and “drunk as hell off of Patrennessy. If you have Patrennessy, don’t do it. Patron and Hennessy. They was all faded.”

Then the Steelers hung up on him, Harris said with a laugh. He eventually moved to a quieter area following the initial phone call, where he was finally able to hear directly that he was being drafted.

Harris in his rookie season had 307 carries for 1,200 yards and broke the Steelers’ single-season rookie record for receptions with 74. Harris is expected to have an even larger role in the Steelers’ offense following the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger.
