Since arriving at Alabama, Nick Saban has been involved in some memorable Iron Bowls.

The Crimson Tide coach knows better than anyone else that nothing is off the table when his team takes on Auburn, and Saban wasn’t going to give the Tigers any bulletin board material during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference.

Saban was complimentary of Auburn running back Kamryn Pettway, saying he’s got exceptional vision and great power because of his size. “We think he’s a fantastic player,” Saban said.

The Tigers’ offense has shown it’s capable of scoring at a rapid pace, but Auburn’s defense is also among the best in the conference. It will be a true test for Alabama on both sides of the ball.

“(Auburn is) probably the most effective front we’ve played this year,” Saban said on Wednesday. He noted the Tigers have several players they have to be aware of and gameplan for.

Despite a heavy dose of the run, Auburn’s offense utilizes tempo in a very effective way. In year’s past, Saban has fought against the growing trend to use up-tempo gameplans, but he feels his team has become better prepared to defend them.

“We played better against their tempo than anything else,” Saban said. “Because we play against tempo teams more and because we run the tempo, that helped our defense.”
