Report: Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings recovering after suffering mild stroke

Former Crimson Tide coach Gene Stallings is one of the most beloved figures in program history, where he known for his even-keeled demeanor and stoic gaze – as well as leading Alabama to a national championship in 1992.
The legendary coach sent a scare through the college football community on Thursday night, as he suffered a mild stroke while speaking at a banquet in Montgomery, Alabama, but he is recovering.
According to TideSports.com, Stallings was introducing Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney at a meeting of the Board of Directors of Great Southern Wood when he began to feel ill. Swinney played for Stallings during his time in Tuscaloosa.
“I introduced Dabo (Swinney) as the speaker but I didn’t feel well at all. So I went to the hospital and they determined that I’d had a stroke before the banquet,” Stallings said.
At age 82, such an incident would be cause for alarm in almost anyone, but thankfully, Stallings is reportedly recovering nicely at his home in Paris, Texas. He has nixed his scheduled trip to Tuscaloosa this weekend as a precaution, but the episode isn’t expected to limit him long term.
As a legendary SEC head coach and a man who has been commended for his high character, we wish coach Stallings a speedy recovery.
