Rob Vaughn is a human being like the rest of us.
He’s also a dang good baseball coach. The former Maryland skipper has been a head coach for 6 seasons and was at Maryland in various roles since 2013.
Vaughn holds a career record of 183-117 and was named the B1G Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2023. This past season, the Terps broke program records for runs, hits, walks and RBI, finishing as the top team in the B1G.
That’s good news for the Alabama baseball program, which hired Vaughn to officially replace Brad Bohannon following an interim stint by Jason Jackson.
Vaughn joins a pretty elite group of coaches at Alabama. Nate Oats, Patrick Murphy and, of course, Nick Saban have the Alabama athletic department in strong hands.
Vaughn met all Alabama coaches when he was hired, including Saban. He recounted meeting the Alabama icon Tuesday:
“I look around at the other teams here, I look at the other coaching staffs here and see what they do,” Vaughn said, via BamaOnLine. “Obviously – my wife laughs at me – I got to meet Coach Saban yesterday. I almost passed out in there. That was one of the more intimidating things I’ve ever been a part of, but what a special thing here. You have the best coach of all-time right down the street from us right here.”
Let’s see if Vaughn can join the group of strong coaches at Alabama.
