Texas A&M-Corpus Christi landed in this year’s NCAA Tournament as the champions of the Southland Tournament. After a win in a First Four matchup against Southeast Missouri State, the Islanders now face the task of top overall seed Alabama on Thursday.
It goes without saying that the prospects of the No. 16 seed Islanders toppling a No. 1 seed Tide squad are slim, but Texas A&M-CC head coach Steve Lutz isn’t looking for any griping from his program. During Wednesday’s press conference, Lutz said his message to the team is “Be thankful to be here, and don’t bitch.”
Lutz went on to say Alabama deserves to be the No. 1 seed and play close to home. But, at the end of the day, “everyone in the country and the world would know who we are if we win tomorrow.”

As for trying to stop Alabama star Brandon Miller, Lutz joked that he was “kind of hoping” Miller might get the flu. He did make it clear he was not wishing for an illness on anyone.
