Armstrong, a Dallas, Texas native, is older than his stats would indicate at first glance. He redshirted in 2019. Texas A&M-Commerce opted out of the 2020 football season during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a transfer, Armstrong also drew interest from Mizzou, Miami, Colorado, Wisconsin, Purdue, Louisville, Indiana, Kansas and others.
