Arkansas erases 15-point 2nd-half deficit, defeats Georgia for first SEC win

Arkansas (12-7, 1-5 SEC) barely led on Wednesday night against Georgia (14-5, 2-4), but the Razorbacks were on top at the final buzzer for the first time this season against an SEC team. John Calipari’s squad picked up its first conference win, 68-65 over UGA.
Arkansas led for just 29 seconds of game time on Wednesday night. Georgia was in front for nearly 37 minutes (36:48), but Mike White’s Bulldogs could not close it out in Fayetteville.
UGA had a 15-point lead with 15:24 to go in the 2nd half, but the Hogs refused to go away. Things were all tied up 65-65 when Adou Thiero came through for Arkansas.
Thiero got fouled in the paint with 1.8 seconds left. He made his first free throw to give the Razorbacks a 66-65 lead. Thiero missed the second free throw but grabbed the rebound. As time expired, he added a put-back to make it a 3-point margin of victory.

Appropriately, Thiero was the top Hog in the win. He led the way for Arkansas with a double-double of of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Karter Knox also scored in double figures with 13 points, making 11-of-13 free throws.
Asa Newell led Georgia with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 at the line.
Up next, Arkansas hosts Oklahoma on Saturday night, while Georgia is on the road at Florida, White’s former team.
