ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the outcome of each college football game each week. The projections for this week include the Arkansas-Oklahoma State matchup. The game features two teams that are coming off wins in Week 1 against inferior opponents.
Arkansas took control of Arkansas-Pine Bluff early, winning by a score of 70-0. The Cowboys hosted South Dakota State at home and ran away with the 44-20 victory.
The FPI gives the Razorbacks a 44.1% implied win probability in this showdown. That means the Cowboys are slight favorites at home with a 55.9% chance to win.
Arkansas did what was expected in Week 1, which was take control early and never look back. The score was 28-0 after the first quarter, and the Razorbacks led 49-0 at the half.
The offense finished with 687 yards in a great performance from Boise State transfer quarterback Taylen Green and the return of Bobby Petrino. Green threw for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for another 88 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ja’Quinden Jackson led the way with 101 yards and 2 more touchdowns.
The Cowboys didn’t light up the scoreboard quite like Arkansas, but they played the type of football they are going to all year. Ollie Gordon II was the focal point, rushing the ball 27 times for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was able to average only 3.9 yards per carry, which is a bit concerning against South Dakota State. Quarterback Alan Bowman has been around a long time and is in his 7th college football season. He did a nice of job of getting the ball to all his receivers while throwing for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Cowboys are favored by 8.5 points at home and the over/under is 59.5 according to FanDuel. We’ll see if Arkansas has a shot at the upset in a key SEC vs. Big 12 battle to highlight Week 2.
