Arkansas HB 1249, which expands the state’s concealed carry laws to include places like college campuses and bars (providing the permit holder completes additional training), has drawn the eye of the SEC.
Conference commissioner Greg Sankey commented Tuesday on the new law, saying that college sporting events should receive a special exemption from the new rules, which the state senate recently proposed:
As an Associated Press report says, the potential exemption has support from the state senate and Governor Asa Hutchinson.
The new concealed-carry rules won’t go into effect until Sept. 1 at the earliest, and maybe not until 2018, as law enforcement officers have been given extra time to prepare for the law.
It seems likely that Arkansas games will continue to remain gun-free for the foreseeable future.
