Perhaps the most underrated hire on head coach Gus Malzahn’s staff, Auburn legend Dameyune Craig injected a youthful exuberance to Malzahn’s inaugural Auburn staff. But don’t be mistaken, Craig is lauded throughout the coaching ranks as a fiercely-talented recruiter.

Craig is reclaiming the Mobile, Ala., area as Auburn territory, having reeled in some big-time recruits from his hometown over the years. In addition, Craig recruits much of the talent-rich state of Florida.

The former Auburn quarterback made a name for himself as recruiting coordinator at Florida State under Jimbo Fisher, where he persuaded Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston to leave the state of Alabama and head to Tallahassee.

History with Tigers

Craig played quarterback for the Tigers from 1994-97, during which he led Auburn to an 18-7 mark. Craig holds numerous Auburn passing records including single-season completions and passing yards. After developing the likes of Christian Ponder, E.J. Manuel and Winston at Florida State, the Pritchard, Ala., native returned to his alma mater and now is coaching star wideouts Sammie Coates and Duke Williams.

Craig also holds the title of co-offensive coordinator alongside Rhett Lashlee, with the two having input on the game-plan with Malzahn. He’s in his second season on Malzahn’s staff.
