Auburn is searching for a new athletics director in the wake of Allen Greene’s departure, one of the early candidates appears to be a sitting AD who has strong ties to Auburn in his family.
John Hartwell of Utah State explained to an Alabama radio station Wednesday that not only are both of his parents Auburn graduates, the same goes for both of his sisters, both of his mom’s parents, and his grandfather and father are long-time season ticket holders.
Hartwell himself is a 1987 graduate of The Citadel told “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 105.5.
If Auburn called him about the athletics director position, he “would absolutely listen.”
“To be associated with that job is flattering, and I think it is one of the very best jobs in the entire country so if they called, I would absolutely listen,” Hartwell said, via AL.com.
Hartwell added that being linked to the job is a direct result of the success of Utah State and past successes at Troy and Ole Miss, where he worked with Greene.
