Auburn’s depth has taken a small hit heading into the spring as head coach Gus Malzahn has announced the departure of three players from his program during his introductory spring press conference.

According to Malzahn, offensive lineman Deon Mix and linebacker Cameron Toney are both graduating and will not return. Both players were reserves and rarely saw the field for the Tigers.

“Few player updates, Deon Mix is graduating, he is gonna be a fifth-year transfer somewhere,” Malzahn said. “Cameron Toney is also graduating, don’t know if he’s gonna do that avenue (graduate transfer) or not, but I would say this about those two young men: They were a part of my first signing class as head coach. They are wonderful young men, they’ve done a great job here at Auburn. They have great families and they will be very successful in life and we will miss both of those guys.”

As for junior safety Markell Boston, he appears to have been booted from the program. Boston was another reserve player for the team. In two seasons of play, Boston registered six combined tackles at Auburn.

“Markell Boston is no longer with our team,” Malzahn said.

Boston was a three-star recruit in the 2014 recruiting cycle. Deon Mix and Cameron Toney were both also three-star recruits but they were members of Auburn’s 2013 recruiting class.
