Gus Malzahn is one of the most interesting coaches in the SEC, despite his penchant for less-than-animated quotes. With another season of expectation on the way for the Tigers, Malzahn took the floor with plenty of questions to answer during Monday’s SEC teleconference.

How much of the outside hype do you consider?
“Internally there is an excitement. That’s what matters.”

Malzahn on Jarrett Stidham:
“First of all, he has to win the job. There’s nothing like game experience, getting out there and playing. I’ve been pleased with his attitude and work ethic.”

On early signing day:
“There will be a learning curve. I’m concerned for the high school coaches, some teams go deep into playoffs.”

On Kyle Davis, who missed all of spring camp after taking a leave:
“We expect him to be back this summer, and we expect it to be fairly soon.”

When asked on recent social media post by Kyle Davis indicating he was already back on Auburn’s campus:
“Like I said, we expect him back fairly soon.”

On freshman Markaviest Bryant’s hand injury:
“He should be fine once gets on campus.”

On Chip Lindsey’s hiring at OC:
“I’ve spent time with him, he’s been here before. He’s a very good QB developer. Kinda all of the above.”

On Rawleigh Williams:
“Not just myself but our coaches and players really hate to see that. We wish him the best.”
