Deshaun Watson had to be carted off the field on Sunday after suffering a non-contact injury in the first half against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Watson was emotional as he was tended to by medical personnel and ultimately carted off the field. The injury happened as Watson was attempting to run the ball from the pocket.

As the broadcasted noted, it appears the injury was to Watson’s right leg:

Former UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson replaced Watson in the Browns’ offense on Sunday. Jameis Winston is also on Cleveland’s roster, but is not active for today’s game.

Watson was not off to a good start in 2024 even prior to this injury. He entered Sunday’s game with just a 31.3% passing success rate on the season, which is a career-worst mark. His status as Cleveland’s starter was already in serious question after its 1-5 start to the 2024 campaign.

If this is a serious injury, it could have longterm implications for the Browns on a number of fronts. Watson still has 2 guaranteed years remaining on his contract with Cleveland.
