The Alabama Crimson Tide hired Jeremy Pruitt as its next defensive coordinator to replace Kirby Smart for the 2016 season.
In need of a quick fix after a sub-par performance from its defense it 2013, Georgia hired one of college football’s hottest commodities in the offseason by acquiring Florida State’s Pruitt to fill the Bulldogs’ coordinator opening. A soft ACC schedule proved no match for the unbeaten and talent-rich Seminoles in 2013 as Florida State rummaged through its 14-game slate with an average margin of victory at 40.2 points per game.
A former Alabama defensive back who spent three years coaching Crimson Tide defensive backs from 2010-12, Pruitt likes to blitz and did so at at alarming rate during his one season in Tallahassee. In 2011 at Alabama, Pruitt’s secondary led the nation in pass defense (111.5 YPG) and pass efficiency defense (83.7 YPG) en route to a national title.
