John W. Hollister played college football in the 1890’s and spent parts of two decades as a college head coach, including one season as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels in 1896. The Rebels finished the ’96 season with a 1-2 record. Hollister also coached at Beloit College and Morningside College during his coaching career. He passed away in 1950 at the age of 80.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
