Paul E. Davis was a longtime assistant coach in the SEC with Mississippi State, Alabama and Auburn, and spent five seasons as the head coach at MSU from 1962-1966. Davis’ best season as a head coach came in 1963 when he led the Bulldogs to a 7-2-2 record and a victory in the Liberty Bowl. Mississippi State failed to win more than four games in any of his other four seasons in Starkville, ending his head coaching career after the ’66 season with a combined record of 20-28-2. He retired from coaching in 1990 and passed away in 2009.
