The SEC has taken over college baseball.

Five different SEC programs have won the past five College World Series titles — and for three of those programs, it was their first CWS crown in Omaha.

Now with Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC, 10 of the league’s 16 programs have won the College World Series.

Most CWS Championships By School

The West Coast in general and USC in particular dominated the early days of the College World Series. Here’s the complete list of teams with at least 2 CWS titles:

USC — 12

The Trojans won 5 consecutive CWS titles from 1970-74, part of a stretch in which they won 7 titles in 11 years. Their most recent title in Omaha came in 1998.

LSU — 7

LSU has been a dominant force for decades. The Tigers have the greatest walk-off win in CWS history, when Warren Morris smashed a championship-winning home run to beat Miami 9-8 in 1996. They added their most recent CWS title in 2023 behind ace Paul Skenes and All-American Dylan Crews. That duo made history when they became the first set of teammates to be selected No. 1 overall and No. 2 overall in the same MLB Draft.

Texas — 6

Obviously, all 6 of the Longhorns’ titles came before they joined the SEC in 2024-25. The program has produced legends of the game, from coaches Cliff Gustafson and Augie Garrido to Roger Clemens, who helped the Longhorns win in Omaha in 1983. Texas’ most recent CWS title came in 2005.

Arizona State — 5

Arizona State’s most recent CWS championship came in 1981. They’ve gotten to Omaha since then, but couldn’t break through even with stars like Barry Bonds.

Arizona — 4

Arizona won three CWS titles in an 11-year span from 1976-1986 but didn’t win again until capturing their most recent crown in 2012. That year was particularly notable because the Wildcats beat South Carolina in the final, ending the Gamecocks’ bid at winning three consecutive CWS titles.

Cal State Fullerton — 4

Another former West Coast power that has fallen on relative hard times. Fullerton’s most recent CWS crown came in 2004. The 1995 CWS champions — led by Golden Spikes Award winner Mark Kotsay — is the best team in program history.

Miami — 4

The U were a dominant team during the live bat era of the 1980s through the late ’90s. The Canes’ 2 most recent titles came in 1999 and 2001.

Minnesota — 3

Hall of Fame outfielder Dave Winfield didn’t win a CWS title at Minnesota, but he was an ace pitcher on the staff that got to Omaha in 1973. Minnesota’s most recent CWS title came in 1964.

Oregon State — 3

As the powerhouse programs in Southern California and Arizona began to dip, Oregon State rose. The Beavers won back-to-back CWS titles in 2006-07 and then added their most recent crown in 2018.

Vanderbilt — 2

Coach Tim Corbin has turned quiet Vanderbilt into the “VandyBoys,” an MLB prospect-laden program that annually challenges to reach Omaha. Vandy won its first title 2014 and its most recent in 2019, producing Golden Spikes Award winners and first-round draft picks along the way.

South Carolina — 2

The Gamecocks won their CWS titles in back-to-back years in 2010 and 2011 — and then reached the final in 2012.

Stanford — 2

Stanford also won its CWS titles in back-to-back years in 1987 and 1988. Future Cy Young Award winner Jack McDowell was an ace on the 1987 staff.

Oklahoma — 2

Oklahoma doesn’t get to the CWS Finals often — but the Sooners are 2-0 when they do. They won titles in 1951 and 1994.

Michigan — 2

The Wolverines won in 1953 and 1962, but surprised the college baseball world when they made it back to the CWS Finals in 2019. That team lost to a Vanderbilt team that featured future MLB starters Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter.

California — 2

The Bears won the first CWS in 1947, and added their most recent title in 1957.
